The student voice that came together in unprecedented times.
2020 was the year of staying home, social distancing, and Zoom meetings. People had been swiftly relocated and adapted to this new way of life. During this period of isolation, there was a sense of longing and connection to others. College students struggled greatly as they were separated from their peers and were learning in a new environment. As a way to connect the students at the Savannah College of Art and Design, the student voice newspaper, District, compiled a team of creatives to develop a magazine sharing stories of students and faculty.
District in Bloom is a collaborative publication work focusing on sharing student work, stories, and interviews within the SCAD community. Each spread features the talents of students as they continued to create during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim was to make many of the spreads look like they were taken from a handwritten journal, with various human elements to them. The creative team worked thoroughly in producing a diverse editorial with photography, collages, and illustrations to reflect students’ lives.
